Question: Is the thickness of a sheet of 1/2″ plastic a true 1/2″?
Answer: This is a common question we receive. It depends upon which type of plastic you are purchasing. Our plastics are sold in metric thicknesses.
We put a sizing chart at the top of every product page to help you through the true thicknesses of each and every one of our products. For instance, have a look at one of our most popular products, plexiglass extruded acrylic sheets and see the attached chart and notice of “tolerance”. A tolerance is a range of acceptable measurements outside of the nominal dimension. So, tolerance variation (in this case 5% for acrylics) is the difference between the upper and lower limits of the thickness.
Any acrylic sheet can be cut to size and our tolerances are typically less than 5%. If a specific tolerance is required, please contact us directly.
1/8″ = .118″ = 3mm 23/64″ = .354″ = 9.mm
3/16″ = .177″ = 4.5mm 3/8″ = .375″ = 9.5mm
1/4″ = .220″ = 5.6mm
Question: What type of glue or adhesive should I use with plastic?
Answer: Theoretically all plastics can be glued or bonded with the use of a contact adhesive. One of our most popular products, PVC Foam Board, can be bonded just like PVC piping for plumbing. Although we do not sell acrylic glue, PVC vinyl plastic glue or structural adhesives they are easily obtained online.
